Dressing For Dating

I had put so much work into my online dating profile; taking the perfect photos, writing an alluring description and putting in the time to return messages and flirt with interested guys. What I hadn't done was thought as far as my first real life date. It was as if I had been living in a dream world, where I never had a bad hair day or became bloated from eating too much pasta. In what seemed like a  blink of an eye I had arranged a date with a guy I really liked. It was only as I stood in my underwear in front of my bedroom mirror, about to get ready for my restaurant date I realised there was a rather large gap between the Internet Me I had created and real life Me.

I sighed and for a moment wished I had been honest in my dating site profile. Under the pressure of a friend, who was trying to be helpful, I had lied about my bra size, my dress size and my age, not to mention including photos of me with my hair straightened, rather than my usual mad curls. This was going to take a lot of effort. Luckily I had taken the afternoon off work and was ready for a serious makeover.

As I spent the next 3 hours applying make up, burning my hair with straightening irons, sucking in my stomach with a giant pair of Spanx and padding my push up bra with 'chicken fillets' I couldn't help but wonder what had happened to the usual low maintenance me. The normal Me probably would have been a lot more appealing to the outdoor loving guy I had arranged to meet. I left the house feeling like an actress about to perform in a play and thought perhaps when it comes to online dating honesty saves a whole lot of work.
